Spring break is just around the corner.  If you are like me, you probably aren’t jetting off to a sun-drenched beach, but instead, are hopping on a plane to do some college visits, possibly in the snow.

If you haven’t begun to think about college visits, now is the time.  I can’t stress enough how important the visit is.  Parents – would you buy a car without giving it a test drive?  Students – would you buy a pair of jeans without trying them on (my guess boys might!)?

There are just a few things you might want to keep in mind as you plan.  For starters, your student needs to decide where they want to visit.  This ‘visit wish list’ should include reaches, targets and safer bet options.  Parents can help plan the actual trip, by making reservations with the colleges for tours or class visits.  If you don’t make a reservation, the college won’t have a record of your attendance…which ties into demonstrating interest. You will want to be realistic in your planning, to ensure that your student isn’t overwhelmed. Plan some fun things too.

During your planning process, you might want to consider using Go See Campus’s college trip planning tool.  Go See Campus is about to celebrate their second year and their website is very user-friendly and provides links to the college’s visit page, along with links to ‘happenings’ on a particular college, so that you can incorporate a sporting or cultural event while on campus.
